No this isn't some big and fancy guide to making a "perfect" str/vit Knight. I'm just going to talk about my knight, what I know about them from experience, and all the big pros and cons I've hit with my Knight (all that I can think of at the moment that is). Feel free to ask questions (I'll answer if I know the answer), or discuss your opinions or anything related that you want.
I'll use quote boxes for stats and gear just to make it easier on me in my own personal way.
-------------------------------------My Knight-------------------------------------
My str/vit Spear Knight is better than yours....hehe, but that's not what I'm posting this for.
When I started iRO I knew what I wanted my main character to be right away, I just dove right into the Swordie job and quickly rose to Knighthood. No it isn't the easiest path to take (being a str/vit Spear Knight), but it sure is one of the greatest and easiest to have in the end. Many people say that this job and build is almost worthless, but I beg to differ. My friend in Japan and I have taken on leveling in areas that we shouldn't have, places where people think only big parties of the levels we had could survive, but we kicked royal ass.
Oh yeah, the character of mine that this name is for is Lareg, my 69/33 FS Priest, who was in the guild 'till I quit playing iRO for a bit and left the guild to save room....that and Rai mocked me for reaching the 90's when I took a short financial break -_-
My main character (the knight I'm talking about) is Larrick, a level 81/50 str/vit Spear Knight, except I've built him to my own accord and wouldn't have him any other way....except I'd go back and level to job 50 as a Swordy if I could, but it's too late for that now. I messed up with a couple skills and can only get to level 9 Brandish Spear, but after I transcend I will make sure the skills are perfect. That friend of mine that I've kicked ass with would be Motrin, an FS Priest of awesome proportions. He is level 80 and almost job 50, if he hasn't reaced it yet that is.
I started when his Priest was around base level 65~70, he heal slaved me a couple times and let me use his +5 Wind Sword Mace for easy leveling in Byalan. Over the course of a couple months I had reached share range with him, but not party capable status yet, for where he leveled with his brother anyway. Just before his brother quit, he was a GC Sader almost level 75. After reaching level 70 I was finally able to level with them in GH Chiv, and that's exactly what we did. We took out Abysmals and Bloodies like there was no tomorrow, we even visited Niff a couple times and raped the Loli Ruris. But after his brother quit we had some trouble, because we would almost always need that third person for the party that only his brother could fill. That's when I reached 74 and took it upon myself to use my agi/crit Knight (currently doesn't have the crit gear) to hunt down rare items to sell for leveling gear. I was able to get the shield I needed and the spears to complete the hand gear. We then were able to take on areas that normal Priests would fear to take with just one Knight with him, places where they'd rather have a Wizard with or instead my place in the party.
Now that the small background check is done, it's time to explain my Knight and what I want him to be.
-------------------------------------My Build-------------------------------------
My str/vit Knight is somewhat unique. Not completely, but I never met another that was the way I was.
My current base stats and the stats I want them at at max level are as follows:
I didn't include the bonuses because those are always only from gear and job level, which is 50 in my case. That three is just to keep my other useful stats at multiples of 5, I have a slight case of OCD.
-------------------------------------My Equips-------------------------------------
My current gear is as follows:
The spears I have are all +7 Very Very Strong Pikes of all 4 elements. I also have a +5 Flamberge because I like sword&shield knights (even if they don't work well on iRO), and a +5 Lance for when we need pure power with his Aspersio.
I would like to have this set in the future however, and of course at least +4, I'll just see if I can get higher +'s before I stick the card in:
And of course a +5 Pollaxe[1] as the main weapon, the strongest single handed spear weapon in the game, unless they added something else in my absence. I would like to have it higher than +5, but I'd only take that risk (since I NEED it) if I had a spare. Yes there's a couple things here that seems like a dream I could never have, but Motrin and I will hunt down all the gear and cards we both need in the future. That being when we can take these monsters easily with no one else that would want to sell the items. Even with how expenive the Pollaxe is sold, we won't sell it, it'll only be hunted down for my use. And I just don't want to put a card in it because there's just so many weapon cards that could work.
People have also said that I should use less defensive gear with higher +'s to make my load lighter and less expensive....but no one said I was going to buy everything the way I want it. I'm going to get the gear and cards seperate, and put the cards in when I feel the piece of equipment is right.
-------------------------------------My Skills-------------------------------------
The last section that's all personally about my knight, before I go on to my experiences. I'll explain the small skill problem I had when I was still a little noobish and didn't think much of the future of the character afterwards. My skills are as follows, Swordy skills listed before Knight skills:
Now to that problem that only transcending or a skill reset NPC could fix. I wasn't thinking much when I decided to change my job to Knight, I had only three skill points left to get so I could max the HP Recovery skill, but I decided to change jobs and use the first quick three Knight skill points for it instead. I should have used the three in Magnum Break for that instead, and not have Break at all. That way I would have had max Brandish and two more skill points for Knight skills. Foolish mistake I know, but it was a good skill for mobbing before I got Brandish. I was also still somewhat new when I did that, easily remedied with a skill reset NPC or transcending. And there was an NPC in June 2005 I could have used but didn't have the items for.....blast!!
I have Quicken because I would like to own a Katzbalger at some point in the future, it's the 2-handed sword that gives the most defense.
And it's finally time to continue my talk of str/vit Spear Knights and my experience with my personal build of one.
------------------------------Hints, Tips, and My Experiences------------------------------
These are just listed randomly as they came to mind, so skim through to find something you're looking for, it might be here.
--If anyone wants to tell you that a Vit Spear Knight is a bad choice, don't listen to them at all. They are the BEST mobbers in the game and get the MOST hp out of any job.
--Even if Vit Saders get the +2000hp from their skill, it still doesn't give more than a full Vit Knight. A max level Knight with full Vit and with gear bonuses (99+10) and has level 10 Increase HP Recovery gets 16674hp; a Sader in the same exact position but also having its +2k hp from the skill gets 14724hp. I've even used this simulator to check, so don't anyone argue.
No it's not a HUGE difference to some, but it is a fact that Knights get more hp and that more hp can mean the difference between victory and defeat. But I'm also only going to 90vit, so I will only have about 600 less hp than that.
--Anyone that has or has partied with a Priest or Wizard around the 70's and up knows that Magma is a great place to level. But I doubt they'll tell you that my FS buddy and I can take that place better than a Wizard/FS pair of the same levels as us. And we'll kick even more ass once I get my VVS Ice Lance made for even more damage. It's great to have a VVS Ice spear for there, if you use shields like me it would be a Pike, the strongest 1handed spear to be forged, or a Lance if you want the best power. Best to have Spear Mastery, Pierce, and Brandish mastered before going there with a Priest though. Brandish Spear a couple times with a nice mob is just as good as Storm Gust, just doesn't freeze, and it's a little slower taking out Lava Golems than SG.
--Leveling my Spear Knight was a pain till the early 60's, that's when I got a basic Lance and fought Argiopes two maps south of Al De Baran. I had Spear Mastery and Pierce maxed at that point since they're. I got it to +5 from the Rough Oridecon drops there and also came across a total of at least 5 Boots[1], I used two and sold the other three.
--After leveling there, when the experience slows down, it's good to move to High Orcs west of the Orc Village. Just make sure you have a VVS Ice Pike/Lance for the HO's and a VVS Fire Pike/Lance for the others, also VERY useful to have a Cranial Shield. With the stats and gear I have listed above, I take about 75 damage from a hit from a HO, and with almost 10k hp at level 81, that isn't much damage.
I know I haven't covered a whole whole lot, but if you have any questions feel free to post, I will most likely have the answer....unless it's about another job I'm not as familiar with.
I'll use quote boxes for stats and gear just to make it easier on me in my own personal way.
